SSC CHSL Typing Test — Free Online DEST Practice

What is the SSC CHSL typing test (DEST)?

The SSC CHSL Tier-2 includes a Skill Test / Typing Test that is qualifying in nature. Candidates applying for the post of Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) must clear the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) or a typing test depending on the post. The typing test checks whether you can type a given English or Hindi passage at the required speed within the allotted time, on a computer, without your usual tools and shortcuts.

The benchmark most candidates aim for is 35 words per minute (WPM) in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. In SSC terms, 35 WPM corresponds to roughly 10,500 key depressions per hour and 30 WPM to about 9,000 key depressions per hour. The catch is that speed alone is not enough — the passage must be reproduced accurately, because every mistake is counted and reduces your effective speed.
